Art Deco Desk in the style of Léon & Maurice Jallot, France, 1940s

Exquisite Desk or Dispatch Table Original period of period and style Art Deco, following the style and work of Léon Jallot and his son Maurice. Made of lacquered wood in black, with brass details and pomos in metacrylate. The work surface is very wide, offering great comfort. It presents a record in the central part and two doors, which hide a record and two shelves on each side. Great storage capacity.

The designers of the new style moved away from the design of so recognizable curves of Art Nouveau and geometry became the main protagonist, highlighting the cubic, spherical forms and straight lines. In the case of this elegant line desktop, as is characteristic in Art Deco furniture, the structure consists of straight lines, except for the small columnillas attached to the front angles, where the small detail of the torque of edges is also added brass that ornament the upper part.

The furniture perfectly gathers all the most distinctive characteristics of style, such as preference for dark tones, normally in contrast to metal details, especially golden. The brightness finishes were also preferred, and therefore the woods were treated, they were enameled, polished, lacquered … as in this case.

Léon & Maurice Jallot

Leon Jallot (1874-1967) is considered one of the most outstanding French sculptors and cabinet of the Art Deco era. He dedicated himself to both painting and ceramics and the manufacture of furniture, but it was the last facet in which he highlighted. He studied in Paris, but did not attend any art school, and soon opened his own workshop. He was the first of Art Nouveau designers to move away from the lush floral decoration and curved lines to pursue linearism, which caused his style to derive towards the most refined art. In 1921 he began collaborating with his son Maurice. For his part, Maurice (1900-1971) studied at the École Boulle, renowned School of Art and Design of Paris, where he acquired a solid training in cabinetmaking and furniture design. Together they designed a wide variety of high quality furniture. Léon retired in the 1940s, but his son continued with the family business a more of decades.
